BACKGROUND REMOVAL

How to remove an image background cleanly

A dependable workflow for product photos, profile images and graphics that need a transparent or solid background.

Start with an image the tool can separate

Background removal is easiest when the subject is sharp, fully visible and visually distinct from its surroundings. Hair, fur, glass and fine edges can still work, but motion blur or a background that matches the subject makes the boundary harder to detect.

Step-by-step

  1. Choose the highest-resolution original available rather than a screenshot or forwarded copy.
  2. Open the Background Remover and select a supported image under 25 MB.
  3. Run the remover and wait for the transparent preview. The first run can take longer while the browser prepares the AI model.
  4. Inspect hair, hands, product edges and any gaps inside the subject.
  5. Keep transparency for design work, or choose a white, black or custom background for a finished image.
  6. Download PNG for reliable transparency, JPG for a solid background, or WebP for a web-ready result.

Common mistakes

Do not judge the cutout on a white preview alone; light edge halos are easier to spot on a dark or colored background. Avoid shrinking the image before removal, because fine detail lost during resizing cannot be recovered later.

PNG, JPG or WebP: how to convert an image

Pick an output format based on transparency, compatibility and how the image will be used—not on the file extension alone.

Choose the format before you convert

PNG suits graphics, screenshots and images that need transparency. JPG is a practical choice for photographs and broad compatibility, but it cannot store transparent pixels. WebP works well for modern websites and supports both photographic images and transparency.

Step-by-step

  1. Open the Format Converter and choose the source image.
  2. Select PNG when transparent areas or crisp graphic edges matter.
  3. Select JPG for a photograph that needs wide compatibility; choose the color that should replace transparent areas.
  4. Select WebP for a modern web asset or a smaller photographic export.
  5. Adjust quality for JPG or WebP. Check text, gradients and fine detail in the preview.
  6. Apply any required rotation, convert the image and download the new file.

What conversion does not do

Changing a small JPG into PNG does not restore detail removed by earlier encoding. Likewise, renaming a file extension is not a real conversion; the pixels must be decoded and exported into the new format.

IMAGE RESIZING

How to resize an image without stretching it

Use pixel dimensions and aspect ratio together so the result fits its destination without looking distorted.

Dimensions and aspect ratio are different

Width and height describe the pixel dimensions. Aspect ratio describes their proportion. If you change width without the matching height, circles become ovals and faces look stretched. Keeping the aspect ratio locked prevents that distortion.

Step-by-step

  1. Find the pixel size required by the website, document or platform where the image will appear.
  2. Open the Image Resizer and choose the original file.
  3. Use Exact dimensions for a known target size, or Scale by percentage for a proportional reduction.
  4. Keep Lock aspect ratio enabled unless the destination explicitly requires a different shape.
  5. If the destination needs a new shape, crop first instead of forcing unequal width and height.
  6. Select the output format, resize, compare the original and new dimensions, then download.

Avoid unnecessary enlargement

Making an image larger creates more pixels but not new scene detail. For a sharper result, start from a larger original and resize downward to the final display size.

CROP & ROTATE

Crop and rotate photos with a clear plan

Improve framing, remove distractions and correct orientation while keeping the subject balanced.

Crop for meaning, not just size

A useful crop removes empty or distracting areas while protecting the details that explain the image. Leave breathing room around faces, product edges and text. If an image must fit a square or portrait slot, decide the final shape before fine-tuning the crop.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Crop & Rotate and choose the source image.
  2. Set the Left and Top positions to choose where the crop begins.
  3. Set Crop width and Crop height for the area you want to keep.
  4. Review the crop preview and check that important edges are not clipped.
  5. Apply a 90°, 180° or 270° rotation if the orientation is wrong. Use mirroring only when it serves the image.
  6. Choose PNG, JPG or WebP, apply the edit and download the result.

Sequence matters

Plan the crop first, then rotate and mirror while watching the preview. This makes the final composition easier to judge and avoids repeated exports.

WATERMARKING

How to add a watermark that stays readable

Balance ownership, placement and opacity so the mark is visible without overwhelming the image.

Decide what the watermark must do

A corner watermark provides attribution with minimal distraction. A centered mark is harder to crop away but covers more of the subject. Use a short name or notice rather than a long sentence, and choose a position with enough contrast.

Step-by-step

  1. Open the Watermark Maker and choose the finished image.
  2. Replace the sample text with your name, brand or ownership notice.
  3. Choose a corner, edge or center position based on the subject and available empty space.
  4. Adjust text size so it remains legible at the image’s normal viewing size.
  5. Set opacity and color while checking the live preview against both light and dark areas.
  6. Choose an output format, create the watermark and download the final image.

Keep the source safe

Watermark a copy, not the only original. The final exported image is intended for publishing; the clean source should stay available for future layouts or different watermark placements.

Group images by destination

Bulk editing works best when every file has the same goal: one format for a website, or one maximum long edge for a gallery. Mixing unrelated destinations in one batch makes quality checks harder.

Step-by-step

  1. Collect up to 20 images that need the same output treatment.
  2. Open the Bulk Image Editor and select the files together.
  3. Choose Compress when the goal is a smaller download while keeping the same overall dimensions.
  4. Choose Convert format when every image should become PNG, JPG or WebP.
  5. Choose Resize long edge when larger images should be reduced to one consistent limit.
  6. Set the output format, quality and long-edge value that match the destination.
  7. Process the batch, inspect the status of every row, then download individual files or the ZIP.

Review before replacing anything

Open a few representative outputs—especially the smallest, largest and most detailed images. Confirm dimensions, orientation, transparency and visual quality before moving the whole batch into its final folder.

Privacy Policy

This policy explains what BGone handles when you use its free browser-based image and file tools. The short version: there is no account, and your files are processed on your device rather than uploaded to BGone.

Files you open

Images, PDFs, Office documents and other supported files are processed locally by code running in your browser. BGone does not send those files to its servers, store copies of them, or use their contents to train models.

Your working files and results remain available only in the current browser tab. They are cleared when you refresh or close the page unless you choose to download a result to your device.

Accounts and personal information

BGone does not require signup and does not provide user accounts. The site does not ask for your name, password, payment details or profile information to use the tools.

Text entered in the Help & Contact page is used only to build a support message for you to copy. It is not sent or saved by the site.

Basic website connections

Like most websites, the hosting provider may receive standard request information needed to deliver the page, such as an IP address, browser type, requested page and time of access. BGone does not receive your selected files through those requests.

The page requests its typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser may connect to Google when the site loads. BGone itself does not set cookies and does not include advertising or analytics trackers.

Your choices

  • Do not select a file you do not want your browser to process.
  • Download only the results you want to keep.
  • Close or refresh the tab to clear the current in-memory work.

BGone runs file processing locally in your browser. No account is required, and selected files are not uploaded to BGone’s servers. Output quality, size and compatibility can vary by file, browser, device and chosen settings.

Keep your original files. Before publishing, replacing or deleting anything, check the downloaded result for accuracy, quality, transparency, formatting and compatibility with its intended destination.

Availability and warranties

The tools are provided free of charge on an “as is” and “as available” basis. BGone does not promise that every file will process successfully, that every output will be error-free, or that the site will always be available.
